Spiritual War

by Margo

Whether we like it or not, we are in a spiritual war right now and the state of affairs is disastrous.  I read an article today on a blog that I follow and I honestly thought I was seeing things.  Please check out this article from The Crooked Halo and take action against this atrocity.  (Apparently there is a so-called “art” exhibit that is showing a man performing oral sex on Jesus.)  I’ll let you read the article for yourself.  I am horrified and outraged and it’s time we all did something about this because complacency just doesn’t cut it anymore.

The ongoing war in the Middle East is bad enough, but the spiritual war that is plaguing humanity is at an unprecedented level of disaster, and it’s only going to get worse.  We have to keep remembering that there are all sorts of subtle tactics that the enemy, Satan, uses in his efforts to destroy souls.  I’ve said over and over again that he’s not going to show up at your door on Halloween in horns and a tail saying Boo! It just doesn’t work that way; he’s much more intelligent than that.  It’s time we saw the truth for what it really is; the end game that will end all games.

There is a lovely young woman by the name of Lila Rose who has been a wonderful influence and inspiration on the Pro-Life movement in recent years.  Her courage and determination to put an end to the culture of death that is destroying our society is admirable and heroic.  She is certainly a role model for the youth and I hope and pray that her efforts continue to cross boundaries and break barriers.  I would also like to recommend another young woman whose blog article I linked to the other day.  She has written another wonderful article against abortion and it includes some beautiful images that speak for themselves.  This young lady is poised to be another Lila Rose, as are so many other vibrant, young people with voices that need to be heard.  I hope you will encourage her to continue her efforts to promote the culture of life.

Spiritual War Takes Many Forms

Spiritual war can manifest itself in various ways.  Given the rise in hate crimes, pornography, child exploitation and even the basic lack of respect that is so prevalent in today’s society, you would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to absorb this blatant truth for what it is.  I read this disturbing article a few weeks ago that points out where we seem to be moving toward in the present day pop culture: “Lady Gaga and the death of sex.”

Lately I’ve given quite a bit of thought as to the subtle ways that Satan lures people into crossing moral boundaries.  I’ve been thinking that it’s almost as if some sick pockets of society would have us believe that there is no difference between a man and a woman and anything goes, sexually; just one example of how Satan trashes life.  Father John Corapi has said: “This is where the Devil wants humanity: dead in a garbage can.”  And he went on to horrify the audience as he explained that he had actually seen human beings in garbage cans; teens that had been addicted to drugs or gotten involved in prostitution.

The gift of life is trashed as abortions are performed at an alarming rate, suicides are on the rise, child exploitation is at a heightened level, drug and alcohol abuse are out of control, idolization is practically everywhere we turn, perversity is considered cool in some circles, and the list goes on.  When is enough enough?!  The moral fiber that makes us human is being ripped apart and we are watering down the core of our faith, making a mockery out of religion, and taking the stance that every person has the right to freedom.  Yes, every person does have the right to freedom, but there is a huge difference between freedom and license.  That in itself could be a whole other article; discussing the difference between the two.  And death of a human being, whether by abortion or euthanasia, is still death.

Spiritual War and Our Lady

Our Lady’s role in these latter times is essential for our salvation.  She is our true comrade in this spiritual war with the enemy and she is pleading for our prayers and penance.  I am now going to close with a marvelous quote from a favorite saint of mine, Saint Louis de Montfort:

“These great souls filled with grace and zeal will be chosen to oppose the enemies of God who are raging on all sides. They will be exceptionally devoted to the Blessed Virgin.  Illumined by her light, strengthened by her food, guided by her spirit, supported by her arm, sheltered under her protection, they will fight with one hand and build with the other.  With one hand they will give battle, overthrowing and crushing heretics and their heresies, schismatics and their schisms, idolaters and their idolatries, sinners and their wickedness.  With the other hand they will build the temple of the true Solomon and the mystical city of God, namely, the Blessed Virgin, who is called by the Fathers of the Church the Temple of Solomon and the City of God.  By word and example they will draw all men to a true devotion to her and though this will make many enemies, it will also bring about many victories and much glory to God alone.”

Thanks again for saying such nice things about me, Margo. Not sure I’ll quite live up to such expectations, but your belief in me is touching. Another great one; there really are some sick things out there.
Also, did you know there are three churches in the Catholic church? The Church Suffering refers to the souls in purgatory, the Church Militant refers to us on earth, fighting for Christ, and the Church Triumphant are those in heaven. Isn’t Catholicism great???

@Sunny – Hi, and how interesting! Thanks for sharing this information. I feel as if we can never know enough about our Church and I learn something new every day!

Well written, Margo…and thanks for the mention of my post. It’s so important to get the word out when a wrong against God is being done! Yes, our fight is not against flesh but against principalities. And what a surprise… we are part of the Church Militant, do you think we are armed and ready? I hope so. I know your weapons are honed ;) N

My own frustrating and sad example of Spiritual War. Just the other day had a facebook pal post, to all my Catholic Friends and proceeded to post how she has learned about some new saints, one being Saint Dude. She continued to joke about how this man smoked MJ etc.. I peacefully replied: I would assume you do not realise this post would offend some who are joyfully obliged to respect and honor saints, the people who fought great odds to follow God’s word and keep their faith, often losing their lives in the process.
Another friend of hers blessed her mocking and posted the following: I’m pretty sure that God has a sense of humor though and the good character to take a joke. There are some of us out hear who are pretty dissapointed over the regretful moral example set by our Holy church as of late. This type of self depricating humor is a tonic. Please continue to post them. ( any comments on this are welcomed by me, as it was upsetting, I feel again the devil at work — all I can do is hope going forward she does not continue these jokes. )

Kim, do you think that maybe sometimes when people behave in that way they are really just fearful of the unknown? I wonder if your Facebook pal felt (maybe even subconsciously) that by posting that comment she was squelching her inner insecurities and fears because denial combined with humor (as inappropriate as the humor may be) is often the tonic (I love that word you used) for burying the heavy stuff and pretending it isn’t real and doesn’t exist. I do think that Satan has his ways of working through the most unsuspecting of people and mockery is one of his favorite tactics. I just give it a positive spin, and instead of focusing on the way these people are behaving, I look at the way you handled the situation and can’t help but think that you will be richly rewarded for having the guts to speak up and say something when most people in your shoes wouldn’t have. Your response to her was perfect and I bet others thought so too, even though they’d probably never admit it! (And what I said above applies to her friend, as well.)

@Kim – Does anyone else have any ideas or insights about Kim’s situation with her Facebook friends and the inappropriate things they posted? I gave my opinion, but it’s just my opinion; I’d love to hear what others have to say about this.

Agreed, your quote “Satan has his ways of working through the most unsuspecting of people and mockery is one of his favorite tactics”. The “tonic” quote is not mine, it came from the man who had responded to me given his blessing to continue these posts based on his reasoning — which he ranted very angrily about a different topic all together. It was pretty bad. He bashed the Church to no end.

@margo

Like Kim, I would have been offended and probably would have simply unfriended that person. Such mockery is irreverent and excusing at as humor is even more insulting. It is never funny if it is offensive, and those who think that offensiveness is funny are in the same category as those who think rape jokes are funny, or those that laugh at people who fall and get hurt. When is pain ever funny?

Personally, I think such dark humor is connected to Satan when he is portrayed as an insane clown, the Joker in Batman and the deck of cards, and elesewhere in genres like the Dark Carnival, ICP (Insane Clown Posse), and any instance where pain, tragedy, violence and reverence are mocked or trivialized as fun and games, because it dehumanizes others and reduces them to objects to be tortured for pleasure. It is a form of sadism.
