October 2010

In this post we’ll talk about the fourth false devotion to Mary which is that of the presumptuous devotees.  In my previous post we talked about the superficial devotees.  And in case someone is reading this for the first time and has not read the other False Devotion to Mary posts, it was Saint Louis de Montfort who told us that there are seven false devotions to Mary.  He has written: ” Mary has authority over the angels and the blessed in heaven. As a reward for her great humility, God gave her the power and the mission of assigning to saints the thrones made vacant by the apostate angels who fell away through pride.”  Bearing that in mind, how can we not give Mary the true devotion that she deserves?  And by abusing our devotion to her, we are also abusing the desires of her own Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Peace Prayers

by Margo

I was looking through a prayer booklet this evening and came across three peace prayers that I thought I should post on this blog.

FOR PEACE IN THE FAMILY

Lord Jesus, my family needs Your help today.  We need Your peace and tranquility, an end to discord.  Give us strength and compassion to understand each other, wisdom and love to help each other, and the trust and patience we need to live peacefully together.  Grant that, through the intercession of Your mother, Mary, and St. Joseph, our family too may become a holy family, a family that works together as one, a family that embraces peace and love, a family whose members are dedicated to each other and to You.  Amen.

CONSECRATION OF THE FAMILY

Almighty Father, we consecrate ourselves and our home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus who loves us with a tender and everlasting love.  Strengthen us with Your grace that we might return His love in … [Read More...]

October is the month of the Holy Rosary.  I found CatholicCulture.org to be an interesting website, full of history and insights regarding the Rosary and its origin, as well as its significance in our lives and the lives of the Popes.  And I also found this newslink from EWTN to be an enlightening source of information for all those people who are seeking peace in their homes and families.  Earlier this month I wrote an article about Our Lady of the Rosary and I am linking to it here, in case you may have missed it.

I can’t think of this month of the Holy Rosary without recalling the events of various visionaries who have been blessed with apparitions of Mary, including the doctor whom I saw just this past week and the visionaries of Medjugorje whom I mentioned in a previous post.  I also think of the readers of this blog when I think of the … [Read More...]

My mother gave this Rudyard Kipling poem to me the day I graduated from high school.  (Well, actually, it’s adapted from the Rudyard Kipling poem; this one is by Gale Baker Stanton.)  I’ve held onto her hand written copy of it all these years.  She told me that this was written specifically as an inspirational piece for young women and that it is one of two versions; the other version was written for young men.  When I was younger, parts of this annoyed me because I thought it was sort of “goody-goody” and it seemed as if it was promoting an unattainable goal that no average person could possibly achieve.  (especially the part that talks about winning or nearing your goal.)  But as I matured and the years went by, I started viewing it from a whole different perspective and began to appreciate its full meaning and the little bits of wisdom that are weaved into the words.  I think … [Read More...]

What does an apparition of Mary have to do with my psychiatrist appointment yesterday?  Well, I’ll tell you.  I’ll also tell you why I had to see a psychiatrist; this is a condensed version of a previous post that explains it:

My mother arranged for a priest (who is actually a monsignor, and the head of his parish) to come to my home to give it a house blessing and then followed up with him shortly after to thank him for his time but also to let him know that his efforts were fruitless.  (You can refer back to an earlier post that I wrote explaining what had happened and why I steered clear of calling him myself.)  The priest asked her questions about my personal habits and tendencies, state in life, and whether or not I’d been to see a psychiatrist.  He explained to her that in order to proceed to the next step which could quite possibly involve … [Read More...]

According to Saint Louis de Montfort, there are seven false devotions to Mary.  In two of my previous posts I talked about the critical devotees and the scrupulous devotees.  In this post I will talk about the third false devotion to Mary which is that of the superficial devotees.  We have to keep in mind that all of these false devotions come from the evil one, Satan, who is like a thief, waiting for the opportune moment to catch us off guard and poison our minds with his lies and deceitful ways.  As St. Louis de Montfort wrote: “People, richer in grace and virtue, more experienced and advanced in holiness than we are, have been caught off their guard and robbed and stripped of everything.”

We live in a world full of spiritual contamination and moral corruption.  It is a constant challenge trying to keep our faith intact without being led astray by the evil spirits who … [Read More...]

This morning I woke up with my head, back and neck aching and my first thought was of all the souls in Purgatory who have no one to pray for them.  It occurred to me before I was even fully awake that it is our obligation, not option to pray for those souls.  I was raised to believe, understand and act upon this Catholic concept, but the idea hadn’t really materialized in my brain until this morning; it was as if a light bulb had suddenly turned on in my head.  I always knew about praying for the souls in Purgatory but I guess I really never gave it serious, heartfelt attention until today.

Yesterday I was driving around running errands, with my destination being my parents’ house to have dinner with my family.  I had my Sirius Satellite Radio on and was listening to a station that plays a lot of songs from the 70s and 80s.  Before … [Read More...]

Uh-oh, here she goes again, now writing about the connection between Halloween and Satan.  Yep, you are right.  I am.  I bet you knew I would at some point this month, didn’t you?  After all, it is October and Halloween is fast approaching and my house has had “issues” non-stop for almost a year now.  (not to mention the sporadic incidents which occurred even earlier than that.)

Please understand that I certainly don’t want to throw a wet blanket over those who enjoy the day.  I have no problem with Halloween the way it was intended to be; an occasion for the children to dress up and trick-or-treat and look forward to a bag of candy, maybe go to a party, whatever.  Hey, I did it too, once upon a time.  But Halloween today is a whole different story and now you can’t even go online to look at costumes for sale without finding something either vampire-related or sexually … [Read More...]

The message from Mary doesn’t appear to be reaching enough people.  She has continually asked that we pray, do penance and fast for vocations and conversions.  She has warned of upcoming disasters and what the world will have to endure unless it has a change of heart and returns to her Son, Jesus Christ.  She has wept through statues and given signs through visionaries, and yet, her words are sadly ignored as mankind goes about its business and continues to live in a state of sin and at best, complacency.

I am becoming more and more convinced that the irritating disruptions and annoyances that I’ve been experiencing in and around my home are directly related to my efforts of drawing closer to the Lord through His Blessed Mother.  Most of these occurrences take place when I’ve either had contact with the person whose suicide attempt I walked in on last February or when I’m writing a post on this blog … [Read More...]

Is it just me and am I missing something or are people going off the deep end?  I don’t get it.  Take a look at the definition of “fashion” in today’s society, and then I’d love to hear your reaction.  My mother and I have these hysterical laughing fits when she pulls these photos from Telegraph.co.uk and emails them to me.  I mean, PLEASE!  Objects shoved into the nose and some sort of cartilage or bone wrapped around a person’s head!?  Seriously, is it just me or is there something very wrong with this picture.  Oh, and that’s not all!  You should see the other ones my mother has emailed me; models with bags over their heads and animal masks on their faces.  And the scary thing is that they are TOTALLY SERIOUS!  Fashion?  Um, no.  More like another example of absurdity on the loose with no boundaries and an “anything goes” attitude in this all too obvious state … [Read More...]
